NYC on July 4th

Today marks 1 year and 11 months of wedded bliss for us!! :-D

Yesterday we took the train into the city. From Grand Central Station, we took a taxi to the north side of Central Park. What a ride that was! It was fun riding in a NYC taxi, but at one point, we got cut off by a driver and our taxi driver had to slam on the breaks. Just about at that point, a NYC police car turned on his lights and pull that guy over! Exciting! :-)

We walked FOREVER in Central Park. It was so neat to be in the middle of the city and not be able to see a building. There was a lot going on in the park. We got to see some pretty lakes and the pool that freezes over and people skate on in the winter. That was a lot of fun. There were a ton of softball fields and games. A lot of people were having a picnic and it was just a fun atmosphere. About half way through, we went to the Museum of Natural history. There were 5 floors of exhibits. We were almost done with the top floor, the dinosaurs and mammals, when they said they were closing in 30 minutes! Dean and I raced to the exhibits on the floors we wanted to see and stayed until they started kicking people out. It was so much fun. We might have to go back to see the rest of the exhibits. After the museum, we went back to the park and walked some more. It was pretty mild weather and very cloudy. It kept looking like it was going to start pouring rain, but we would get some sprinkles, then it'd stop. After finishing the last mile or so of the park, we walked over to Times Square. We went to the M&M World shop and the Hershey's Shop. Surprisingly we didn't eat one bit of chocolate the whole time. We walked up 42nd street towards where the fireworks were going to happen. We stopped and had New York style pizza at the Metro Cafe and we rested for a bit. Our feet and legs were so tired by this time that we thought we couldn't move anymore! We walked towards the East River and were directed down a few blocks. We kept walking until we could walk no more because of the crowds and stood there until time for the fireworks. There were tons and tons of people. The fireworks were really pretty! It started to rain. We enjoyed the cool rain after all that walking during the day. It was a lot of fun. After the fireworks were over, we made our way very slowly back to Grand Central Station to get on our train back to Cortlandt. All in all, it was an awesome Independence Day! We are both a little sore this morning, but we're planning on taking it easy today.

As always, pictures to follow later!
