Atlanta Visit

When we moved away from Atlanta we knew we would have to come back and visit.  We made a lot of good memories in that city and it will always be special to us.  We knew we had to visit on a weekend when the Braves were in town.  Since Dean's favorite Brave, Martin Prado, was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks, we decided that would be a perfect series to take in!

Burlington just got a direct flight to Atlanta in June so we took the 7AM flight to Atlanta on Friday morning.  Our first stop was Georgia Tech.  It was nice to see the campus and the things that have changed.  We got to ride the Trolley and found out that Dean's GT ID still works to access his building and office!  We only got to visit with a few people since summer schedules are a little different, but it was still fun.  Our next stop was one of our favorite restaurants called Olives.  Unfortunately they are under new management so it wasn't as amazing as normal.  Several of my coworkers came over for lunch.  It was so much fun to go to lunch with them again.  Not having them around is the worst part of working from home.  After lunch we went over to work to see everyone.  It took several hours to make all the rounds, but was totally worth it.  We checked into our hotel and got ready for the BRAVES!!!!

Being at Turner Field felt like visiting home.  We somehow managed to pick the game where they retired Chipper Jones' number before the game.  The Ted was packed!!  Even though Chipper was not my favorite player because of personal reasons, I still recognize him as a great Brave.  It was pretty fitting that we got to see his retirement.  We saw him play AAA ball in Richmond and many games in Atlanta.  The game was great!  The stands erupted when Prado came up to bat and gave him a standing ovation!  He tipped his batting helmet and when he went to put it back on, he missed!  At least we got to see him flash his big Prado smile!  Rebecca enjoyed the game with us and my coworker Jason and his brother joined us for some of the game.  The Braves won and we got to see Friday Night Fireworks!  When we started to leave the stadium, there was a downpour!  We still got our Zestos ice cream to celebrate the win and got back to the hotel.
Ah, Turner Field!  #10 is in the outfield for Chipper!
Beautiful sunset at the Ted
Braves!!
Friday Night Fireworks!  They never let us down!
On Saturday we ate at a favorite breakfast spot, hung out with friends, watched the Braves, and ended the evening with El Azteca, Dean's favorite Mexican restaurant in Atlanta.  Vermont does not have a good local Mexican restaurant so this was a very good treat!

Sunday we visited our Atlanta church and had a great time catching up with some wonderful people.  It is great to see that the church is still thriving!  We changed into our Braves gear and headed to the afternoon game!  The Braves played another wonderful game.  They also finished just in time for us to head to the airport.

Dean and I were flying out of the same terminal but to different locations.  He was flying back home to Vermont and I was taking a trip up to Richmond to visit my newest cousin, Luke!  I was really looking forward to my trip, but it is never easy to tell Dean goodbye.  I guess that's a good thing that after almost 7 years we still don't want to be apart!

Thanks for a great visit, Atlanta!  See you next time!
