Artsy Saturday

Today Dean and I decided to take advantage of living in Atlanta and go to the High Museum of Art (www.high.org). On the first Saturday of every month, people living in Fulton County get in for free. We walked to the MARTA station and road 1 station North to the High Museum. The line to get in was really long. But, we waiting patiently in the wonderful Atlanta weather. We started on the top floor and saw a whole bunch of different paintings, sculptures and pottery. Even though we are far from being artistic minded people, we enjoyed ourselves. We walked so much that our legs ached, but it was fun and different and Atlanta-ish.

We also got to see the special exhibit called the First Emperor. There was a collection of Teracota Warriors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teracotta_warriors). These were scultures found by the emperor's tomb that dated back to around 200 B.C. The emporer had them (around 8,000) buried outside of his tomb so that he could rule in the afterlife. We got to see several whole pieces in the exhibit as well as some that were missing pieces. It was really cool to see something so famous and that has traveled around the world to be on display in different places.

Dean and I have a list of things we want to do while living in Atlanta. We probably won't be living in Atlanta once Dean graduates, so we want to see and do a lot of things that are in Atlanta while we're here. Don't worry, I'll keep you posted on all of our outings!
